Battle of Košare

The Battle of Košare ( Albanian  Beteja e Kosharës , Serbian Битка на Кошарама Bitka na Košarama ) was fought during the Kosovo War between the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia and the Kosovo Liberation Army ( UÇK ), which were supported by the NATO Air Force and the Albanian Army . The battle took place from April 9 to June 10, 1999 near Košare , a place in the Albanian Alps southwest of Junik on the border between the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia and Albania.

The KLA tried to invade Kosovo from Albania and cut off the lines of communication of the Yugoslav army and also to take over the Dukagjin region . After days of heavy fighting, the Yugoslav army stopped the KLA from advancing into Kosovo. The UÇK insurgents managed to take over the Košare outpost after massive artillery fire by the Albanian army and NATO air strikes on Yugoslav strategic sites, but were unable to break through the Yugoslav army's second line of defense.
