Ground joint

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The ground joint is an accessory in chemical laboratory technology that enables a gas- and liquid-tight connection between two glass devices with a standard ground joint. This means that the usual use of ground fat can be dispensed with, which prevents the occurrence of fat residues.

nature

Ground-joint sleeves are made of PTFE , which means that they can be used in a wide temperature range and have excellent chemical resistance. They are available in various standard joint sizes. The cuffs are conical in shape and " prevent seizure and thus also reduce the risk of breakage when the equipment is taken apart ". Ground-joint cuffs are very thin-walled (mostly 0.05 mm) and therefore fit like a "second skin". In contrast to ground joint sleeves , they do not have a protruding grip collar, so there is no impairment when using ground joint clips . Ground-joint collars are also suitable for medium vacuum up to 0.1  mbar , e.g. B. for rotary evaporators .
