history

In its current form, which dates from the 15th century, the building serves as a residential and administrative building. The former fortifications are no longer recognizable today.

The earliest mention of the castle as “Algeristan” can be found in 1050, when the fully free Eppo exchanged it with the Archbishop of Salzburg for goods in the Sulmtal . Aribo, a brother of the Aribone Hartwig , gave the castle to the Göttweig monastery in 1102 . The monastery exchanged it with Margrave Ottokar III in 1161 . against some possessions in Lower Austria. Around 1300 Friedrich von Algersdorf sold the castle and the fortification, which is no longer visible today, to Hermann Windischgrätzer. His descendant Friedrich Windischgrätzer had to seize the castle and the fortifications on Walter von Hanau. He donated it to the parish of Voitsberg in 1377 as a lake device .

In the 14th century the estate seems to have lost its importance as a noble residence and to have become a farm. Michael der Prem sold the estate on May 11, 1402 to Eckhart Windischgrätzer's widow and his son Choloman. At that time the estate was no longer an aristocratic estate, but an interest estate . Until 1460, the estate remained in the hands of the Windischgrätzer who ran it as a farm. In that year Baltasar Egkenberger from Graz bought the estate and expanded it again into a noble residence. When he was arrested in 1490, the castle fell back to the Windischgrätzer. Margareta Windischgrätzer sold Algersdorf to Seifried von Eggenberg in 1586. It was the seat of the rulership until the middle of the 18th century. Until the middle of the 19th century it was administratively connected to Eggenberg Castle. In 1921 it was bought by Alfred Röhrich.
