Bellschwitz Castle

Bellschwitz Castle ( Polish : Pałac w Bałoszycach ) is a castle in Bałoszyce, Poland, in the Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship in historic West Prussia .

history

At the beginning of the 14th century the village belonged to the cathedral chapter of Pomesania . In the 16th century, the Pomesan Bishop of Poland went over to the Reformation and renounced secular rule. Duke Albrecht gave him Gut Bellschwitz as a gift, which he kept until 1683. The ownership passed to Balthasar Bernhard von Brünneck, whose family remained the owners until 1945.

Magnus von Brünneck restored the farm after the devastation during the Napoleonic Wars and had the castle built in Tudor style in 1850 according to plans by Runge, using Babelsberg Castle as a model.

When the Polish takeover of the region in 1945, the interior of the castle was completely devastated. Today the property is used as a castle hotel.
