The Bożków Castle (German Eckersdorf Castle ) is located in Bożków (German Eckersdorf ) in the rural community Nowa Ruda ( Neurode ) in the Lower Silesian Voivodeship in Poland .

history

The castle was built in the 16th century as a Renaissance building. In 1750 the baroque park was laid out. From 1780 the castle was owned by the von Magnis noble family and their residence. From 1787 to 1790 the castle was expanded with wing extensions. In 1870 a fire raged in the castle, the castle was then rebuilt in a classicist style with a high tower and the interior was designed according to style. Originally the castle was supposed to be one floor higher; This can be seen from the castle tower, which has been prepared for another floor. The last owner of the family was Ferdinand Graf von Magnis (1905–1996) until 1945.

After Eckersdorf fell to Poland in 1945 as a result of World War II, the von Magnis family had to leave the castle and was expropriated. At times a functionary school and an agricultural school were housed in one part of the building. The building is largely empty and in ruins.

Castle Park

The palace park was considered one of the most important baroque gardens in County Glatz, and was probably created under the von Götzen in the 18th century. The garden is rectangular above the castle and has no axial relation to the castle.

Around 1800, Count Anton Alexander von Magnis had a sensitive, romantic extension of the garden built above the baroque garden. This extended to the manor buildings of the Lindenhof. An artificial ruin was created by a pond. An artificial castle ruin, the Eckardsturm, was also built in the southwest of Eckersdorf. In 1858 Ignaz Kittel was appointed head gardener who enriched the garden with tropical plants.

Today the northern part of the baroque garden is built over by the local school. However, an imposing staircase has been preserved, as has the structure of the garden with avenues of chestnut and linden trees. The contrast between the baroque garden and the landscape garden can still be guessed at
