Einsiedel Castle

The Einsiedel Castle is located in the municipality of Kirchentellinsfurt , Tübingen district , associated settlement Einsiedel and provides the oldest part preserved. It was in the 15th century by Count Eberhard founded and now serves as the Youth Hostel of the Catholic Church.

History of the castle

Kirchtentellinsfurter Allee

Count Eberhard im Bart had a three-story hunting lodge built on the Einsiedel in 1482. He founded St. Peter's Abbey for the brothers who lived together , where he was buried in 1496. Both buildings burned down: the monastery in 1550, the hunting lodge with the famous hawthorn, which Count Eberhard is said to have brought back from his Palestine trip, in 1619. Duke Johann Friedrich had the castle partially restored, so that today only a small remnant of Count Eberhard's castle remains is preserved. Alleys run in a star shape here.

Einsiedel domain

Until 1795, the domain was managed by the state together with the Einsiedel stud farm. In that year the ducal government leased it for the first time. The tenant Johann Heinrich Kling had been running the estate since 1802. Initially, he made a profit, as the prices for agricultural products and a reduction in the rent made the domain operation profitable. In the inflationary years of 1816/17, Kling was able to achieve extraordinarily high prices for its products. The stud gave him fertilizer free of charge, and the administrative norms allowed favorable payment terms for the rent. In December 1822, the Hofdomänenkammer acquired the Einsiedel estate from the Oberfinanzkammer as a private asset manager for the royal family and took over the domain the following spring.

To this day, the domain is owned by the Hofkammer Württemberg ; from 1926 to 2012 it was leased to Südzucker AG , which mainly cultivated sugar beet there .

Planned test track

The automotive group Daimler AG had informed the press on September 22, 2011 that the Hofkammer had offered him the Einsiedel for sale. After initial considerations, the plateau on the Kirchentellinsfurt district was considered to be one of four possible locations investigated up to then for a planned test and technology center with a test route several kilometers long.

Local resistance to these plans quickly emerged. One problem for a possible construction of the test track was the necessary approval from the Tübingen regional council for changes to the land use plan for the area within the Schönbuch nature park . On the other hand, shortly after the plans were announced, resistance arose in individual factions of the Kirchentellinsfurt municipal council and in large parts of the population, especially in the directly adjacent Pfrondorf , where over 700 signatures were collected against these plans. In particular, the resistance of the FWV faction in the local council was able to move the Daimler AG project manager at the beginning of October 2011 to refrain from planning.
