Fikensolt is a moated castle near Westerstede in the Lower Saxony district of Ammerland . The castle was the former seat of the Lords of Fikensolt.

history

In 1457 the "Battle of Fikensolt and Mansingen" took place near Fikensolt, in which the Oldenburg counts met the East Frisian chiefs and gained supremacy in North Oldenburg (see the memorial near Fikensolterfeld).

The castle built as a baroque palace in the second half of the 18th century as a successor of the former castle of the Knights of Fikensolt.

Today only the manor house remains of the former Fikensolt manor. Julius Köbner, co-founder of the German Baptist congregations, stayed here for several days in September 1850 . The reason for this stay was the dedication of the fields Baptist Church .

The property was renovated in 1985-88 and is not open to the public as private property.
