Groß Strehlitz Castle ( Polish Zamek w Strzelcach Opolskich ) is the ruin of a castle in Strzelce Opolskie (German Groß Strehlitz ), in the Opole Voivodeship in Poland.

history

In 1303 the "castrum strelcense" is mentioned as a ducal castle . At the beginning of the 16th century the building was in ruins and was expanded to a castle under the von Redern family . Especially in the second half of the 19th century the castle was expanded and rebuilt.

owner

From 1651, the estate with the castle belonged to the family of Count Colonna.

In 1807 Andreas Maria von Renard inherited the rule of Groß Strehlitz from an inheritance on his mother's side (ancestors of the Gaschin / Colonna family).

On his significant estate, he mainly operated the construction and further development of industrial plants. Renard owned 22 small and large iron works as well as a wire works and was with its factories the second largest iron producer in Upper Silesia.

Renard's son Johannes Maria von Renard took over the Groß Strehlitz estate . He died of blood poisoning in front of his father in 1874. Thereafter, Mortimer von Tschirschky-Renard (born September 17, 1844 in Koberwitz, district of Breslau, † March 18, 1908 in Breslau), son of Marie Christine von Renard, the sister of Johannes Maria von Renard, inherited the estate in Groß Strehlitz with its possessions , his racehorses and the thoroughbred stud.

Count Renard's property management included the Dollna manor, the Nieder-Ellguth manor, the Groß-Vorwerk manor with the Schewkowitz, Gollaschützen, Koczorowna and Neudorf manors, the Himmelwitz manor with the Gonschiorowitz and Wernerau manors, the Kobelwitz manor in the district Cosel, the manor Olschowa with the Vorwerk Xionslas, Komorniken and Johannishof, the manor Poremba, the manor Rogau with the Vorwerk Krenzel, the Allodial manor Rosniontau with the Vorwerk Railshof, the manor Salesche with the Vorwerk Oberhof, Niederhof, Mittelhof and Wiesenhof Manor Scharnosin with the Vorwerk Annahof, the Manor Schironowitz, the Manor Sucholohna with Mokrolohna and Brezina with the Vorwerk Gruschek.

Ludmilla Gabriele Maria von Renard (* August 28, 1830 - January 16, 1894) another sister of Johannes Maria von Renard married the Seifersdorfer Count Johann George Wilhelm Karl Gebhard von Brühl, legation secretary (* April 27, 1818 - November 27 1858). From this marriage three children emerged: Karl von Brühl-Renard , Elisabeth von Brühl (married to Castell-Castell) and Marie von Brühl (married von Mangoldt).

Karl von Brühl-Renard from Seifersdorf near Radeberg in Saxony took over the estate of Groß Strelitz after the death of his cousin Mortimer von Tschirschky-Renard and from 1909 he was entrant on Groß-Strehlitz. During this time Brühl-Renard acquired the property in Kalinow (812ha). From then on, it was part of the property of the Fideikommissherrschaft Groß Strehlitz with a total of 6561 hectares. Brühl-Renard also owned Seifersdorf Castle . He died on December 31, 1923 in Groß Strehlitz Castle and was buried in Seifersdorf. After his death, the property went to his half-brother Georg Karl Andreas Albert Graf von Schlieffen (1860–1944). This came from the second marriage of his mother Gabrielle with Georg Karl Graf von Schlieffen (1832-1901).

In 1932 ownership of Groß Strehlitz passed to Count Wolfgang zu Castell Castell (1877–1940). Zu Castell Castell was the son of Elisabeth Countess zu Castell Castell (née von Brühl), the sister of Karl von Brühl-Renard. Wolfgang Graf zu Castell Castell was buried in the Groß Strehlitz palace gardens. His son Prosper zu Castell Castell (1922–1989) was the last heir until the expropriation.

The castle burned down due to the effects of the war in 1945 and has been in ruins ever since.
