Count Johannes Maria von Renard (born March 24, 1829 in Groß-Strehlitz , Upper Silesia ; † March 7, 1874 in Vienna ) was a German coal and steel industrialist and large landowner in Silesia . Before and after the founding of the German Empire , he was a member of the Reichstag .

Renard was the son of the Silesian industrialist Count Andreas Maria von Renard . He initially studied law and political science at the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Bonn . In 1851 he became active in the Corps Borussia Bonn . When he was inactive, he moved to the Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Berlin and the Friedrichs-Universität Halle .

After the exams he joined the diplomatic service of the Kingdom of Prussia . He was Legation Secretary in Washington, DC until 1853 , then in Constantinople until 1854 . During the Franco-Prussian War (1870–1871) he was Prefect in Nancy for the German military administration .

He was landlord on Kelsch with Koschmieder near Lublinitz (Upper Silesia) as well as the rule Sielce with Modrzejów near Sosnowitz (Russian Poland) and had a larger share capital. He bred and owned numerous racehorses, including three winners in the German derby . Renard has served on the boards of several insurance, mining, and railroad companies. As the successor to his father, he became chairman of the board of directors of the forest, steel and mining company "Minerva" in 1868.

In 1867 he was one of the founders of the Free Conservative Party and was a member of various Reichstag from 1867 until his death, the Constituent Reichstag in 1867, the Reichstag of the North German Confederation (1867-1870) and the Reichstag of the German Empire from 1871. He also sat from 1862 to 1874 as a member of the Prussian House of Representatives .

Renard was married to Maria Anna Auguste Freiin Spies von Büllesheim (1827-1856) for the first time. After Anna's death he married Luise Wilhelmine Christiane geb. Ebel used Countess of Schwerin-Willmersdorf († 1901). His nephew and heir was Mortimer von Tschirschky . His mother was Renard's older sister Marie Christine von Renard (August 5, 1826; died February 4, 1847). His father was called Karl Benno von Tschirschky . Another sister of Renard was Ludmille Gabriele Maria von Renard (born August 28, 1930, † January 16, 1894 in Potsdam). Her first marriage was to Karl von Brühl (1818-1858), the patron saint of Seifersdorf (Wachau) near Radeberg. The marriage had three children: Elisabeth; Maria; Karl von Brühl-Renard (1853–1923), the last Count of Seifersdorfer. In her second marriage, Ludmille Gabriele Maria was married to Georg Karl Graf von Schlieffen (born January 8, 1832 Berlin; died October 13, 1901 Munich).

On March 5, 1855, Renard became a Knight of the Order of the Holy Sepulcher in Jerusalem .
