Member of the Reichstag

Seal mark : "Reichstag member"

Member of the Reichstag (abbreviation MdR ) was a member of the Reichstag in the German Empire (1871-1918) and later a member of the Reichstag in the Weimar Republic (1920-1933). Both constitutional organs met in the Reichstag building in Berlin.

Formally, the parliamentarians of the time of National Socialism are also called this, although it was actually not a comparable parliament , since the basic democratic rights were ineffective and all parties with the exception of the NSDAP were prohibited. Members of the only electoral list, the Adolf Hitler list , were appointed by Hitler. The Reichstag in National Socialism had virtually no powers and was a pure Akklamations organ, which met on Hitler's orders, and the very rare ( see. This decision of the Greater German Reichstag on April 26, 1942 ).

Often - inaccurately - the members of the Weimar National Assembly, which met between 1919 and 1920, are also referred to as MdR .
