history

Hohenbocka mansion around 1860, Alexander Duncker collection

The castle was built in 1897/1898 by the von Götz family based on a fairytale picture. It replaced the original mansion, which was demolished in 1902. In 1904 horse stables and the carriage shed were built, stylistically based on the old gatehouse and the air house on the vineyard. The small castle was built in 1909 for a son of the family.

In 1945 the castle was used as accommodation for resettlers. After the expropriation, the mayor and pastor prevented the destruction. After the district land reform, the building was used for medical purposes, from 1950 as a sanatorium and from 1965 as a quarantine station. The castle became a branch of the district hospital in Senftenberg . In 1966 a doctor's practice was housed in the Little Castle. From 1968 physically handicapped children lived in the castle, for which a special school was set up. After the castle was renovated in 1981, up to forty disabled children could live in the castle until 1992.

From 1993 to 1995 the palace complex was renovated and the roofs were re-covered. In August 2008, the Drochow Group acquired the castle and the castle grounds from the Hohenbocka community. The castle and its outbuildings were again extensively renovated from 2009 to 2013 under monument preservation aspects and converted into a health and conference hotel. The park was faithfully restored according to old path and planting plans. In addition to overnight accommodation, the castle offers a restaurant, a summer and show kitchen with a café, numerous rooms for prophylactic, medical and spa treatments, a fitness and sports center, conference rooms and a banya.

The hotel and the restaurant were temporarily out of order in the winter of 2014/15. The reopening took place on Easter Sunday 2015. The operator is the Hotel Schloss Hohenbocka GmbH.
