Hohenbrugg Castle
Hohenbrugg Castle is located in Hohenbrugg on the foothills of a mountain ridge, in the municipality of Fehring in southeast Austria in Styria .
history
The first documentary mention is from 1305 with Wulfing von Hohenbrugg as the owner. In 1480 the castle was taken by Hungarians, from which it was wrested again in 1491. In 1532 Hohenbrugg Castle was captured by the Turks and partially destroyed. The castle got its current shape in the 16th century (building inscription: 1594 Bernhardin von Minndorf).
On July 4, 1704, the Austrian troops near Mogersdorf were attacked and defeated by Kuruzzen under General Field Sergeant Josef Count Discounta . The castle , which was well equipped with over 200 firearms , fell into the hands of the insurgents for a short time, was robbed, but left again voluntarily.
