history

The present castle was built in 1786 by Captain Christoph Dietrich von Plötz. The estate and castle were owned by the Saxon royal family from 1824 to 1945 . Due to the effects of the war, expropriation in the course of the land reform in 1945 and the subsequent mismanagement under the legal form of a state-owned property, the buildings were run down, partly badly damaged and in a desolate state. The castle has been empty since 1980. In 1994/1995 the German Foundation for Monument Protection financially supported the emergency security of the building and initiated a grant from the Free State of Saxony amounting to 160,000 marks. In 2002 the manor was auctioned by the "Lebenstraum" community.

The alternative, ecologically oriented community Lebenstraum, in the legal form of a cooperative , was founded in 2002 with the date of the auction of the former manor. Within ten years, the smaller part of the building was restored while preserving the preservation of the monument protection in order to set up apartments, common rooms, studios and workshops.
