Juliusburg Castle ( Polish : Pałac w Dobroszycach ) is a castle in Dobroszyce in the Polish Lower Silesian Voivodeship .

history

Until 1665 the place was owned by the Heugel family. The present castle was built between 1589 and 1601 as a late Renaissance castle secured by moats . In 1655 the castle was acquired by Sylvius Nimrod von Württemberg, Duke of Oels , and in 1672 it fell to his son Julius Siegmund, who renamed the place Juliusburg. The castle was raised to a residence and baroque style. In 1704 Juliusburg lost the status of a residence. From 1792 the Dukes of Braunschweig owned it and had the castle purified. From 1885 until 1945 Juliusburg was the domain of the Wettins . After the region was annexed by the People's Republic of Poland, the castle was converted into a school building. The Protestant castle church was demolished in 1970. The castle has been restored and used as a hotel since 2014.

Building

The castle has two storeys on a rectangular floor plan with four low corner towers. The facade is now simply structured, but a geometric sgraffito decoration is hidden under the plaster . Inside, a baroque sala terrena , an early baroque oak staircase and the partially stuccoed theater hall have been preserved.
