Capell Castle, today the Niederkappel rectory

The former Kapell Castle is located in the community of Niederkappel in the Rohrbach district of Upper Austria (Niederkappel No. 5). Today it serves as the parish rectory.

history

The castle was built around 1280 under Ulrich von Capellen . At that time Capellen was a Passau fief and came under the rule of Berg near Rohrbach in 1562 . He was succeeded by the gentlemen von Raspen. Ulrich Raspen was 1,397 nurses from Liebenstein . The castle was set on fire during the Peasant Wars. Afterwards it was partially demolished and converted into a building that served as a vicarage. The renovation that took place after 1626 was carried out by its owner Erasmus von Rödern.

Kapell Castle today

The baroque building stands next to the church of Niederkappel, it is two-story and covered with a hipped roof, the outer walls are covered with a coarse trickle plaster in yellow color. A round arch forms the connection to the former farm buildings. The windows on the ground floor and first floor are designed differently with stucco frames . On the ground floor they are protected by a wrought iron grille.
