history

In the course of the establishment of the place at the end of the 13th century, the castle was probably built as a ducal city castle in the southeast of the city under Konrad II . Excavations prove the existence of a square keep . Ludwig I of Lüben expanded the castle and built the palace chapel , which bore an inscription with the year 1349. The castle was built in brick as an irregular square, with a surrounding wall , residential buildings in the southeast, the castle chapel on the southwest corner and the adjoining gate to the north . In the northwest corner, a free-standing tower was linked to the surrounding wall.

In 1428 the Hussites besieged the castle without success, in 1641 the castle was conquered and destroyed by Swedish troops, after which it was not completely restored. The castle chapel became Protestant in 1522 and Catholic from 1675 to 1908, and was destroyed in 1945. The surrounding walls, foundations and cellars of the castle are preserved today.
