Leimbach Castle

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Leimbacher Schloss is a monument in the municipality of Leimbach in the Wartburg district and is located in the eastern part of the village. The main building, which is now used as a residential and commercial building, was the manor house of the former Leimbacher Gutshof, the extensive complex of which was built over with modern buildings.

history

Little is known about the history of the castle.

(Quote) In the Middle Ages, the place Leimbach was the ancestral seat of a noble family, von Leimbach, which can be traced back to the period from 1146-1478. After this family died out, it was taken over by the von Haun family (Bad Salzungen), of which ownership passed to von Butler zu Wildsprechtroda .

Building description

Using local building materials, the castle was solidly built up to the top floor, the facade plastered, with roughly hewn corner blocks and garment stones made of red colored sandstone as a three-storey building. A stair tower on the north side connects the floors. This also covers an arched gate to the courtyard. The once steep, tiled roof was replaced during the last general renovation (?). The current roof has dormers and enables this floor to be used. The baroque enclosure belonging to the property emphasizes the noble character of the house.
