Lerchen Castle
The Lerchen Castle is located in Radstadt in the district of Sankt Johann im Pongau from Salzburg (Castle Street 1).
history
This Salzburg residence was first mentioned in 1289, when it was built as a tower. During the peasant uprisings of 1525/26 it was conquered, plundered and burned down by the peasants. Reconstruction began in 1530 under Michael Wilpendorfer. The descendants of Wilpendorf owned the castle until 1633. It was bought by captain Johann Schmiedinger in 1637. In 1648 it was sold to Joseph Christoph Ziurletti von Lerchen . His son Johann Christoph handed the property over to the city of Radstadt in his will, which in 1695 sold it to Felix Pflanzmann.
After further changes of ownership, the Salzburg court chamber acquired the castle in 1779 and expanded it as an official and residence for the head hunter and woodruff. The prince-archbishop's coat of arms of Archbishop Colloredo with the year 1779 can still be seen on the bay window on the eastern facade . After Salzburg was annexed to Austria, the castle was auctioned in 1823 and went to Josef Schaidinger, beer brewer and landlord in Radstadt, who set up his brewery cellar here.
The following owners can be verified after 1828: Katherina Zallerin, Franz Bededikt Steinwender (1828), Dechant von Teisendorf , Radstadt municipality (1831), Benedikt Geringer (1845), Matthias and Theresia Wisenegger (1846), Cyril and Maria Darin (1872), Leonhard Marangani (1882), Italian sawmill owner. This defaced the interior of the castle, his children sold the residence to Rupert Prehauser in 1904. 1905 Sold to the St. Katharina Hospital in Radstadt, which set up a hospital and care facility here. In 1939 it was taken over again by the community and in 1971/72 a faceless extension was added.
Lerchen Castle today
The mansion has a Gothic core in the north-east of the complex on the three-storey floor, which is separated from the other additions . The typical appearance of a Salzburg residence was largely changed by the additions and conversions.
