Militsch Castle

Militsch Castle ( Polish : Pałac klasycystyczny w Miliczu ) is a castle ensemble in Milicz (German Militsch ) in the Lower Silesian Voivodeship in Poland .

history

Since the 12th century, fortifications on the Hopfenberg ( Chmielnik ) secured the passage over the Bartsch , which was important as part of the Breslau-Danzig road. Konrad I von Oels had a castle built around 1360.

The so-called "Old Castle" was rebuilt in the neo-Gothic style in 1797 after being destroyed by fire, but fell into ruin that is still preserved today. Between 1797 and 1799 the Prussian minister Joachim Carl von Maltzan had a classicist castle with 23 window axes built according to a design by Carl Gottfried Geißler (1754–1823). At the same time he had one of the first landscape parks in Silesia laid out. In the style of sensitivity, a temple of music, a thatched hut, a Turkish pavilion and a romantic hermitage should evoke different moods in the visitor. After the Napoleonic Wars , a "Peace Gate" was added to commemorate the alliance between Prussia, Austria and Russia during the Wars of Liberation . The so-called “Black Gate” at the western exit of the park formed a counterpart.

A technical college for forestry has been housed in the castle since 1963.

Structure and surroundings

In the middle of the building there is a domed ballroom. On the north side there is an administration building from the 18th century and a guesthouse built in 1910. In the northern part of the park maintained by the forestry school are the castle and the ruins of the "old castle". The southern part is characterized by landscaped watercourses and ponds.
