The Plagwitz Castle (Polish Zamek w Płakowicach ) is located in Płakowice ( Plagwitz ), a district of Lwówek Śląski in the Lower Silesian Voivodeship in Poland. It is considered one of the most important Renaissance residences in Silesia .

history

Around 1217 the place belonged to the knight of Talkenberg, who held the office of burgrave of Talkenberg Castle ( Welkersdorf ). In 1327, Seifried and Nickel von Raussendorf were enfeoffed with Plagwitz, and two mansions were created, separated by the river. The older of these mansions was completely demolished after a flood in 1815. From 1501 part of the property was owned by Christoph voon Talkenberg. His heirs built a Renaissance- style castle in place of the previous manor between 1550 and 1563 , probably based on a design by Franz Parr and his Haynau workshop . In 1585 the castle came to the Schaffgotsch . After 1720 Hans Freiherr von Hochberg was the owner , who had the castle equipped with a library and a collection of paintings. In 1813 it was devastated by Napoleonic troops . Later in the possession of Count von Nostitz-Rieneck , the castle went to the Prussian state in 1824, and in 1828 the Provincial-Heil and Nursing Institution at Plagwitz am Bober was built.

As a result of the Second World War, the castle, along with most of Silesia, fell to Poland in 1945. It was later used by the Agricultural Production Cooperative, but became increasingly neglected. In November 1992 it was bought by the Baptist Church . She organizes withdrawal and rehabilitation seminars there.
