The Ruhelust Castle in Innsbruck was built between 1562 and 1582 in front of the city wall in the area of today's court garden, consisting only of wood and half-timbering. Archduke Ferdinand II . gave the order for this and built the castle for his wife Philippine Welser . It was used to accommodate the court during the renovation of the Hofburg and expanded into a three-storey building with 50 rooms and a chapel. Ferdinand II's second wife, Anna Caterina Gonzaga , built a double monastery on the grounds of the castle after his death.
