Salnecke Castle

Salnecke Castle is a magnificent building and family entourage in the Swedish municipality of Enköping in the historic province of Uppland . It is located near the village of Örsundsbro, north of the river Örsundaån.

The building with three main floors plus a basement and a double attic was built around 1640. The client was the mining master Georg Grissbach. There is also a brick side wing and two wooden outbuildings.

The estate belonging to the castle had existed since the Middle Ages and belonged to the large landowner Bo Jonsson Grip . In 1383 the estate was donated to the Poor Clare Monastery in Stockholm, which owned it until 1460. Then it came to Archbishop Jöns Bengtsson Oxenstierna . After the Diet of Västerås in 1527 , Salnecke was drafted and declared a crown property. In 1626 King Gustav II gave Adolf Salnecke to his secretary and diplomat Philipp Sattler . After his death in 1641, Salnecke came into the possession of Georg Grissbach. The locksmith's family was the owner until the estate was sold around 1730. The buyer was the Counts of Spens, who owned it until 1830. Gut Salnecke then became the property of the Gyllenadler family, who continue to live in the castle.

On October 9, 1964, Salnecke Castle received the status of Byggnadsminne from the provincial administration in Uppsala län .
