Schauensee Castle

The Schauensee castle above Kriens was first mentioned in the 13th century in connection with the knight Rudolf von Schauensee (1257-1317). When exactly it was built is not known, but we do know that the castle was in ruins again at the beginning of the 14th century and today only the tower dates from this period. At the end of the 16th century, Johannes von Mettenwyl acquired the facility and rebuilt it. The castle complex in its current form was built in 1750 under the then owner family "Meyer von Schauensee".

The municipality of Kriens was able to acquire the "Schlössli", as it is called by the Kriens population, in 1963. Today the castle is used and rented out as a cultural and meeting place.
