The Teleborg Castle ( Swedish : Teleborgs slott ) is Växjö District Kronoberg County in the region Småland in Sweden .

location

The castle is located directly on Lake Trummen and opposite the campus of the University of Växjö about 5 kilometers south of the city center.

history

The name of the castle comes from one of the largest villages in the south of Växjö, which was formerly called Telestad . The Swedish word borg means castle or castle . At the turn of the 18th century to the 19th century, the village was also called Teleborg after a territorial reform after the castle built at that time .

The builder, Count Gustav Fredrik Bonde , had the castle built around 1900 for his wife Anna Koskull as a wedding present. The design of the building was inspired by the medieval castles of the Rhine Valley .

The city of Växjö bought the Teleborg estate in 1964 for 3.7 million Swedish kronor .

use

Today the castle is used by the city of Växjö as a conference venue for meetings, congresses and other representative purposes.

The castle is sometimes completely or partially rented out in the hotel and various events such as Christmas banquets take place in the premises.

The castle can usually be visited on Sundays as part of an open house.

In the buildings of the former stables of the castle there is now a student restaurant and discotheque under the name "Slottsstallarna", mostly "Stallarna" for short (castle stables).
