The Wildenberg Castle is a castle in Brunswick Kappel in Hochsauerlandkreis . Here was once the residence of noble lords of the county as stewards of the monastery County .

history

Little is known about its origins. Around 953, a chapel is said to have been built at this point under Brun von Cologne . After the founding of Kloster Grafschaft, the chapel and the manor house located there belonged to the monastery. The castle in its current form dates back to 1295. Widukind von Grafschaft is named as the builder of the residential tower. The new chapel in Romanesque style was also built during his time . After his death, his widow Adelheid von Wildenberg lived there. The system takes its name from this. A branch of the noble lords resided here at times. Little is known about the following centuries.

The historian Johann Suibert Seibertz became the owner of the facility in 1817. In 1822 Seibertz had the remains of the old castle tower and castle house demolished. In 1907 the mansion burned down and was replaced by a new building a year later. The Schäfer family had owned the property since 1920 and sold it in the 1980s to the Ruhrverband , who wanted to dammed the Neger tributary here . The plans have since been dropped. The castle has been privately owned again for a number of years and has been extensively renovated in accordance with historical monuments.
