The Wolfsberg Castle is a historic building in Ermatingen , a Swiss commune in the district of Kreuzlingen, Thurgau .
history
Wolf Walter von Gryffenberg built the castle in 1571. In 1731 it was bought by Junker Johannes Zollikofer , who restored it to its present form. In 1795 the banker of St. Gallen , Jean Jacques Hoegger (1747–1812) bought it and probably had the "Parquin House" built in the south-west wing. After his death, the daughter of Giuliana Guglielmina Hoegger (1776–1829) inherited it , who sold it in 1815 to Baron Ignaz von Wechingen von Feldkirch . In 1824 the castle became the property of the French Colonel Charles Parquin . He had it renovated and set up for a pension, which failed in 1839. The next owners were the Englishman Joseph Martin Parry , who turned it into a model farm , and Karl Bürgi , who turned it into a nursing home in 1865, which remained in operation until 1918.
For the crime writer Wolf Schwertebach , the castle was a topic of conversation from 1942 to 1943 for the brigade leader of the SS Walter Schellenberg and the brigadier general Roger Masson . In 1970 the castle was acquired by the Swiss bank UBS , which, after renovation, turned it into a training center by adding other buildings in the area. On the west wall of the library is an iron clock tower of the old castle, which was built in 1540 by Laurentius Liechti .
