The Affaltrach Castle Cellar was founded in 1928. It is owner-managed by Thomas Baumann, in the third generation after his father Reinhold Baumann and company founder Willy Baumann.

founding

Willy Baumann, the company's founder, learned the trade in a leather factory, became an authorized signatory in a shoe wholesaler and moved to Paris in 1908 at the age of 25. In 1911 he founded an export company for early vegetables there. The First World War puts an end to the company. Willy Baumann was interned and remained in detention for 5 years. After his return, he took over his parents' wine trade in Gaildorf, where he was born .

In 1923 he married Elisabeth Muth from Guntersblum , who comes from an old family of winemakers. Their ancestors were known as winery owners in Rheinhessen and the Rheinpfalz. On December 10, 1928, Elisabeth and Willy Baumann acquired Affaltrach Castle with a 1.2 hectare castle garden from the Affaltrach community .
