Pharyngeal constrictors muscles
As Musculi constrictor pharyngeal to German pharynx are three muscles in the throat called that when swallowing play an essential role:
- Musculus constrictor pharyngis superior , the upper throat constrictor
- Musculus constrictor pharyngis medius , the middle throat constrictor
- Inferior pharyngeal constrictor muscle , the lower pharynx, also musculus cricopharyngeus referred
The throat constricters are so-called "wrongly arranged like a tile", in that the next lower muscle surrounds the next higher muscle on the outside.
The innervation takes place through the cranial nerves IX and X .
