The narrow-winged fleckleib bear ( Spilosoma urticae ) is often referred to in the literature as the nettle bear and is a moth that belongs to the bear spiders .
description
The wingspan is about 36 to 44 millimeters. The almost white butterfly is only sparsely dotted. This distinguishes it from the similar species of the broad-winged fleckleib bear ( Spilosoma menthastri ) and, as the name suggests, by the narrower wings. There are short comb sensors on the head. The body is yellow in color and framed with a few black spots on both sides.
The caterpillars are up to 40 millimeters long. They are colored black-brown and have very strong black-brown hairs.
habitat
The narrow-winged Fleckleibbär is only common in parts of northern Germany, the species is rarer further south. The main occurrence area are wet meadows and forests.
Way of life
The animals are nocturnal. The moths fly from mid-May to late July. The caterpillars are found from July to October. The pupa hibernates.
The caterpillars feed on many different herbaceous plants , such as B. Common dandelion ( Taraxacum officinale ), great nettle ( Urtica dioica ), common sorrel ( Rumex acetosa ) and bitter clover .
