The Kecskemét narrow-gauge network is a disused railway network with 760 mm gauge in southern Hungary . The starting and operating center is the eponymous city of Kecskemét . In Törökfái station, about 8 km away, the route branches into two branches of almost the same length to Kiskunmajsa and Kiskőrös . The narrow gauge network was operated until 12 December 2009 only in passenger and was at times for some villages in the kleinkumanischen Puszta lack-developed road routes the only permanent connection to the outside world.

history

The nucleus of the network was the field railway of a brickworks , to which in 1928 the 52 km long Kecskemét – Törökfái – Bugac – Kiskunmajsa small railway was connected. The operator at the time was Kecskeméti Gazdasági Vasút . The railway remained in the possession of the city of Kecskemét until after the Second World War before it was taken over by the Hungarian State Railways (MÁV) in 1949 . In 1951, the Törökfái – Kiskörös branch with a length of 46 km was put into operation. Since the end of freight traffic in the 1980s, the narrow-gauge network was only used for passenger transport until December 13, 2009. Used came here diesel MÁV series Mk48, for special trips was in Kecskemét also a steam locomotive available.
