Schmidberg (also Schmiedberg ) is the name of a Swabian noble family . As a knightly family from the middle of the 17th century to the middle of the 18th century, the Lords of Schmidberg belonged to the knight canton of Odenwald of the Franconian knight circle . In 1649 Ludwig von Schmidberg acquired the town of Lehrensteinsfeld and shares in Adersbach and Ittlingen . The Castle Ittlingen was a manor house where the family.

From 1716 to 1777 they were matriculated because of the Upper Castle in Talheim in the knight canton Kocher of the Swabian knight circle . Eva Maria Chanofsky married August von Schmidberg , the youngest son of Ludwig von Schmidberg , in 1694 . In 1777 the last branch of the von Schmidberg family died out.

The coat of arms of those von Schmidberg is described in the Siebmacher Volume: Lot Page: 52 Plate: 34, according to the diploma it has a blue shield with 3 lowered golden wavy bars, at the main point the objects are elevated by a golden ball between 2 golden, five-pointed stars Placed in bars, a silver deer hull on the helmet. It was awarded to Adam Schmidberg, Lorraine clerk at Sierck, on April 14, 1580 by Duke Charles II of Lorraine. A different color is shown in Siebmacher Supplement III. Tab. 8 No. 6, there is a red shield with 3 silver wavy bars in it, at the main point elevated by a silver sphere between 2 silver, six-pointed stars, the objects placed in bars, on the crowned helmet a silver deer stump. In Loutsch (p. 716) the colors blue and gold are given ("d'azur à trois fasces ondées d'or, accompagnées en chef d'un besant accosté de deux étoiles, le tout du même, cimier une tête et col de cerf d'argent "), and the variant with red and silver is referred to as possibly belonging to a secondary line (" peut-être branche cadette? "). The current coat of arms of Lehrensteinsfeld has taken over the golden wave bars in the blue field in reduced number (in blue over two golden wave bars a golden horseshoe).
