Schmidt-Rubin is the name for a rifle system used by the Swiss Army .

The 1889 infantry rifle by the Swiss designer Rudolf Schmidt replaced the previous Vetterli system in 1889 . The corresponding cartridge 7.5 mm Gw Pat 90 and the further developed 7.5 × 55 mm Swiss (Gw Pat 11) were developed by Eduard Rubin . This is how the name Schmidt-Rubin came about.

The most prominent feature of this type of rifle is the straight-pull breech , which, similar to the Mannlicher system, enables reloading with a powerful but quick push-pull movement. The Schmidt-Rubin repeating rifles as a personal weapon were replaced by the Assault Rifle 57 from 1959 .
