The writings of the Natural Science Association for Schleswig-Holstein is an annual scientific journal.

For over 130 years it has offered scientists the opportunity to publish their research results. The range of articles covers the whole range of scientific disciplines and covers research topics from all parts of the world. In the 70 annual volumes published so far, there are particularly numerous articles from the subjects of oceanography and geology, and many issues also contain articles on fauna , vegetation and research history.

The printed editions are available in over 412 libraries in 56 countries ( ISSN  0077-6165 ). There is an extensive internet archive in which all contributions from all volumes are freely accessible and usable for those interested. The writings are also listed as online journals in the Electronic Journal Library (E- ISSN  1867-7428 ).

The articles in the publications of the Natural Science Association for Schleswig-Holstein are aimed equally at specialist colleagues and the interested public. The publisher is the non-profit natural science association for Schleswig-Holstein in which production and sales take place without financial interests. Their appearance is ensured exclusively by the association members and donors.

The contributions are published according to a peer review process. Research articles, reviews, short reports and essays from the field of natural sciences appear in German or English.

history

The first volume of the writings appeared in 1873. Initially intended as an internal journal, they quickly developed into an opportunity to present the latest research results to the professional world and the interested public at the same time. Well-known editors also contributed to the reputation. For many years the zoologists Karl August Möbius and Adolf Remane were responsible for the scientific selection and examination of the articles as editors.

The journal is used by researchers to present work of global interest. In 1878, in the 3rd volume, the first description of mitosis by Walther Flemming appeared . Today Flemming is considered the father of cell biology and is recognized as one of the greatest discoverers of biology.

There were many important publications in the scriptures later as well. Names such as Karl August Möbius , Adolf Remane , Karl Gripp, Johanna Mestorf , Berndt Heydemann , Wolf Herre , Fritz Theodor Overbeck , Ernst-Wilhelm Raabe, Alfred Rust and Max Planck can be found several times in the list of authors.
