Step limit

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The step limit in dance is a fixed catalog of step sequences that are allowed in the lower starting classes (D and C classes in the German Dance Sport Association ) of a dance tournament. It is intended to prevent individual couples from systematically studying some difficult figures from gaining a better impression of the judges and thus no longer appreciating the overall dance impression, which should be in the foreground. For example, the double chase is not allowed in tango .

The aim is to put the basics of the dances in the foreground for beginners in tournament sport in order to ensure that even in the higher starting classes, even with a high proportion of poses and shows, basic knowledge of the dances is retained in the long term.

Figure control commissions (FKK) are used for this purpose at dance sport tournaments .

In the standard dances, the step limitation in the area of the German Dance Sport Association is based on the last edition of the book The Ballroom Technique published by the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing (ISTD) .

In the Latin-American dances, the book is The Laird Technique of Latin Dancing by Walter Laird including the supplementary volume (Supplement) used as the basis of the step boundary.
