Grist mill Altensien

The Altensien grist mill is a grist mill in the village of Altensien on the Baltic Sea island of Rügen .

Today's mill is the reconstruction of a grist mill that existed until the end of the 1930s. The unusually small mill, designed as a post mill, has been restored to its original size, even if it looks almost like a model. The original mill was operated by the farmer Schälke and was probably mainly used for personal use.

The current reconstruction was made in 2006 with funds from the European Union , the state of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania and the municipality of Sellin , to which Altensien belongs. The mill is functional and is occasionally put into operation as an attraction. For this purpose, the wings are then covered with cloth.

A small building was erected in front of the mill with information boards on historical mills in the eastern part of Rügen.
