The twin-engine transport aircraft Shcherbakov Shche -2 ( Russian Щербаков Ще-2 ) was developed during the Second World War and was mainly used for subcontracting to the Soviet aviation industry. After the war, you put it as a priority airliner for short-haul one.
development
Alexei Shcherbakov had already been involved in the design of a number of gliders and powered aircraft, including the development of the I-153 , before he was given the task of designing an urgently needed multi-purpose military aircraft in 1942. The first flight of the machine, initially known as the TS-1 , took place in the same year and when the state flight tests were finished in the summer of 1943, series production began in October. The Shche-2 appeared in two versions: the cargo version could carry 1000 kg of cargo or, as a medical aircraft, eleven stretchers, the school version was equipped for the training of navigators . The versatile model could carry 16 soldiers as a troop transport or 9 parachutists in the air landing version. Some Shche-2s were given to Poland after the war.
Production ended at the beginning of 1946 after 550 copies had been produced. In 1945 a model for use in agriculture with an improved chassis appeared, but it was not realized because the Shche-2 was chronically underpowered for this task. Two other versions were equipped with diesel engines, a planned double-hull version with three engines remained only a project.
technical description
The Shche-2 was made almost entirely of wood. In the fuselage on the left side there was a large hatch so that even bulky loads could be transported. The fabric-covered wing, which was arranged in a shoulder -wing configuration, was supported by struts on the fuselage. The vertical stabilizer consisted of two end disks that were attached to the horizontal stabilizer . The main wheels of the rigid rear wheel chassis had streamlined panels.
