Shoe union
The shoe-Union AG was an important German shoe manufacturer and included in particular in the 1970s, one of the largest shoe manufacturers in Germany.
The company was created in 1970 from the merger of the formerly independent manufacturer Dorndorf Schuhfabrik GmbH & Co. KG in Zweibrücken and Servas OHG shoe factories in Rodalben . In 1970, the two companies were the largest German shoe manufacturers after the industry leader Salamander, with sales of around 150 million D-Mark (Dorndorf) and around 100 million EUR (Servas) . The combined annual production of the Dorndorf and Servas brands was around 100 million pairs of shoes in the year of the merger. The market share of the merged company in Germany in 1972 was around 10%.
The merger of the two companies was a reaction to the increasing market pressure from foreign shoe manufacturers at the time. In 2002, Schuh-Union was taken over by competitor Rieker in Tuttlingen .
