Schoolmaster Quarry
The schoolmaster quarry is one of abandoned Ruhr sandstone - Quarry in community property in Syburg , Dortmund . The outcrop shows layers of carbon . As the show point of the Syburger Bergbauweg it is looked after by the Association for the Promotion of Mining Historic Sites in the Ruhr Area .
In the early 20th century, teachers were allowed to do a sideline here. In particular, they made door sills and door frames. The local history researcher Willi Kuhlmann reports: "In 1929, in addition to collecting food and using a clay pit for brick-burning, the teachers at the former Syburg primary school were able to improve their low salary in this quarry through quarrying and processing."
