Protective collar (medicine)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A protective collar (also collar , leak protection , ruff ) is a generally funnel-shaped, stiff, protruding medical device that is mounted from injured or operated animals the neck. Its purpose is to prevent the animals from licking or scratching a wound.

In dogs , the protective collar is often attached to the collar . In cats and other small animals , the protective collar is placed around the neck and closed. The simplest protective collars are made of sturdy plastic , the more complex ones are made of softer materials.

However, the collar affects the animals by hindering the tactile hairs , restricting the field of vision and making hearing very difficult. Most animals get used to the protective collar after a few days. In rare cases animals react so disturbed that their collars have to be removed completely or for meals.
