Swabian country wine

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Swabian country wine is one of the German country wines , which represent a high level of wine (formerly: "table wine") and are characterized by "regional character and rural naming".

Since the landscape from which the grapes originate must be indicated on the label of the country wine, the Swabian country wine is one that comes from the Swabian landscape , one of 26 German country wine regions .

The German Wine Act regulates how the designation "Landwein" may be used:

"The designation of a wine as a country wine requires that

  1. at least 85 per cent of the grapes used for winemaking come from the rural wine region whose name the wine bears; the remaining portions, including the products used for sweetening, may only be made from grapes that come from other rural wine regions,
  2. a concentration by cold has not been carried out,
  3. the bottler has been included in the system of annual controls for compliance with the product specifications for local wines by the body responsible under state law. "

The designation “Landwein” may only be used if its production is approved, which is done by the German state governments.

In summary: Wine declared as country wine, like " table wine " in the past , must come from approved vineyards in the region and be obtained from German grapes, from approved grape varieties and vineyards . However, its starting must weight must be higher than that of table wine; the minimum alcohol content is at least 0.5 percent higher by volume .

This country wine is always a "dry" (hearty, bitter) or "semi-dry" (finely bitter) Schoppenwein ; The label “Schwäbischer Landwein” must be stated on the bottle label. In addition, only the name of an area is allowed on the label.

According to the ordinance of the Baden-Württemberg Ministry of Food and Rural Areas for the implementation of wine law regulations of May 31, 2005, the natural minimum alcohol content is set at 5.9 percent by volume (50 degrees Öchsle) for Swabian country wine.
