Saxon country wine is one of the German country wines that represent a higher level of "German wine" without designation of origin and are characterized by "regional character and rural naming". The designation of origin is a protected geographical indication .

The area of ​​origin of the Saxon country wine is mainly determined on the territory of the Free State of Saxony , but the protected geographical indication also includes cultivated wine-growing areas in neighboring Brandenburg and Saxony-Anhalt, which work closely with Saxon winemakers and processing companies from the Saxon core area. The maximum hectare yield for Saxon country wine is set at 80 hl / ha. This must be made from at least 85% grapes that come from the approved vineyards, while the remaining grapes must come from Germany. The residual sugar content must correspond to the values ​​of a dry or semi-dry wine.
