The Schwarze Heide , together with the Hünxer Wald and the Gartroper Busch, forms a forest and meadow area between Kirchhellen and Hünxe on the Lower Rhine , criss-crossed by many small and low-traffic paths , which is best known for the Schwarze Heide airfield of the same name . To the west of the region there is also a former ammunition depot that has been closed. The buildings there were demolished, the fences opened, the bunkers welded and the streets cleared for walkers and cyclists.
