The black house

The Black House ( Schreiberbau ) on Färbergraben in the old town of Munich was an administrative building of the Süddeutscher Verlag .

The six-story steel frame building with a black aluminum-glass facade was designed in 1963–70 by Detlef Schreiber, Herbert Groethuysen and Gernot Sachsse based on the buildings by Mies van der Rohe . After the publishing house moved to the SV high-rise building on the outskirts, work began on demolishing the building. A report by the Bavarian State Office for Monument Preservation in spring 2007, which determined the building's status as a monument , could not change anything. In the professional world, the building was considered one of the most outstanding examples of post-war architecture in Munich. In 2009 the building was demolished.
