The (Swiss) Book Center (BZ) is the leading intermediary bookseller for the Swiss book trade .

In 1882 the book center was founded as Schweizerisches Vereinssortiment AG (SVS). In 1885 it was converted into a cooperative and renamed the Swiss Book Center (SBZ) in 1968 .

The book center is mainly a publisher delivery and also carries a bar range . It also offers a large selection of foreign-language books and multimedia .

The book center is located in Hägendorf in the canton of Solothurn , 5 km southwest of Olten . It has the publisher 's delivery for 650 publishers , had 190,000 titles and 8.0 million copies in stock in 2019 and has 21,500 m² of storage space.

The operational part of the Swiss Book Center Cooperative was outsourced to Buchzentrum AG (BZ) on March 1, 2001 .

The German Libri GmbH has a 20% stake in Buchzentrum AG .

In 2007 the book center had a turnover of 220 million CHF and in 2013 of 190 million CHF. In 2002 the company had 540 employees and at the end of 2014 330 employees.

With effect from January 1, 2015, Orell Füssli sold its minority stake of 34% in the postcard publisher Photoglob to the book center, as a result of which Photoglob and 16 employees moved its headquarters to Hägendorf.

In 2018 the Swiss book center sold 8.5 million books and sales amounted to CHF 148 million.
