The Swiss was a place for excursions in Gliwice , consisting u. a. from a park that was used until 1945. Switzerland is located at Gut Gardel (Gardell) at the central cemetery near Stare Gliwice (Alt-Gleiwitz). In 2013, the restored Schweizererei was opened to the public as a park.

History and description

A recreation center and a park belonged to Switzerland. The park had two interconnected gondola ponds that were used for ice skating in winter, a toboggan run, a playground and a music pavilion. The restaurant had a terrace and a beer garden (the "coffee place"). In the restaurant building there was a large hall, a dance hall and guest rooms. The terrace had seating for 600 people. Switzerland was served as the end point by a bus line (line 4). In 1924 extensive maintenance work took place and new walking paths were laid out.

In the 1930s, the Berlin-Bytom autobahn was built by Switzerland. From 1945 the Swiss company was no longer operated. The area remained unused, became overgrown and was forgotten. The park was not maintained for the next 67 years.

Revitalization

In 2008 an inventory of the trees was made. Maintenance work was then carried out on the trees. From 2012 to 2013, the Swiss factory was revitalized and restored. Sidewalks were built and benches were placed. The park was supplemented by a playground, a fitness trail and a parking lot. The former toboggan run has been converted into a mountain bike course.
