The Swiss Central Office for Building Rationalization CRB ( C entre Suisse d'études pour la R ationalisation du B âtiment today: Swiss Center d'études pour la rationalization de la construction) is committed to the understanding in the construction industry since 1959. In close cooperation with professional associations and on behalf of the Swiss construction industry, CRB develops standards for the entire life cycle of a building - from planning through implementation to management. With their uniform system and language, they facilitate cooperation between building owners, planners, entrepreneurs and suppliers and form the basis for digitization in the construction industry.

History and organization

CRB is an association with around 5,000 members from all over Switzerland. It was founded in 1959 by the Association of Swiss Architects BSA . Other supporting associations are the Swiss Association of Engineers and Architects SIA and the Swiss Association of Master Builders SBV . Today all relevant associations and organizations in the Swiss construction industry are represented on the board and support the activities of CRB. Today, CRB employs around 70 people in its offices in Zurich, Friborg and Bellinzona. Up to 400 construction experts work for CRB every year on a contract basis.

National and international networking

CRB works closely with numerous national associations and organizations in the construction industry. So that users can continue to benefit from the advantages of standardization and rationalization in the future, topics such as Building Information Modeling BIM and digitization play a central role in CRB's development work. CRB is a member of the following organizations:

  • netzwerk_digital: CRB is responsible for standardization in this association, which supports and promotes the coordinated development of digitization in Switzerland. Other members are SIA, the public builders KBOB and the interest group of private professional builders IPB and Bauen digital Schweiz.
  • buildingSMART International
  • International Construction Information Society ICIS

Core business

The best known CRB tools are the standard items catalog NPK and the building cost plans BKP and eBKP. They are available in German, French and Italian. In addition, CRB sells the Natural Color System NCS from Sweden exclusively in Switzerland. It is the only color system that describes colors as the human eye perceives them.

The standard items catalog NPK today includes over a million brand and product-neutral service items from building construction, civil engineering and underground construction as well as building technology. It is used for the systematic creation of uniform, clear and detailed service descriptions during construction. The NPK is linked to the work equipment for cost planning and monitoring and forms the basis for digital data exchange. The building product platform prd.crb.ch supports building professionals with valuable product and manufacturer information.

The execution-oriented construction cost plan BKP serves planners, entrepreneurs, building owners and investors as a common basis for a uniform presentation of cost information. With the building cost plan building construction eBKP-H and the building cost plan civil engineering eBKP-T, costs that are based on elements can be broken down. This increases the efficiency of cost planning, as it quickly becomes clear which components have the highest costs and where there is potential for optimization.
