The threshold value is the concentration of foreign substances from which organisms can perceive them. The foreign substances can be solid , liquid or gaseous , the organisms can be humans , animals or plants .

Positive and negative effects

This perception by the organism can be associated with positive or negative effects, e.g. B. at the olfactory odor threshold of a fragrance or fragrance . In the DIN EN 13725 standard, the odor threshold is defined as the odor concentration at which, under defined test conditions, the probability of perception of the sample is 0.5, i.e. 50% of the test persons indicate an odor perception.

There are also standardized analysis methods for determining the threshold values for human taste sensations.
Any impairment can also lead to damage.
