Schwerzkoer Mühle in Neuzelle

The Schwerzkoer Mühle is the last functioning mill in the Dorchetal . It is located in the eponymous district of Schwerzko in the community of Neuzelle , which in turn is in the southeast of Brandenburg in the Oder-Spree district . The mill was first mentioned in a document in 1420 and is now a listed building .

history

From 1420 on, grain was ground at the Dorche with the help of the water mill for around five hundred years. The waterwheel last had a diameter of around 3.2 m and a width of around 1.5 m. Around 1900 a sawmill with a horizontal gate was installed, which in 1945 was converted to an electric drive. The grinding operation was discontinued in 1920, the sawmill was used as a secondary activity until the 1980s. This was followed by an extensive restoration of the mill and the saw frame, which was completed in 1999. The overshot water wheel was rebuilt. Today the building is used for demonstrations, for example on the occasion of the German Milling Day . There is also a small museum and an excursion restaurant with a shop. In 2010, their operators received the Citizens Prize for Monument Preservation for their commitment .
