Sisters of Dioheko
The Sisters of Dioheko are a medicine League of Iroquois - Indians . It is the duty of this society to thank the spirits of corn , beans, and pumpkin . The ceremony has a song and a march, but no dance. Legend has it that in the second half of the seventeenth century all of the society was captured by the Cherokee and carried down the Ohio River . Two men were used as escorts through the woods. The federal government tries to imitate this legend by walking. A song is sung at the end of the ceremony. The ceremony is usually held once a year. The rattle of this society is made from the shell of the tortoise .
