Sisters from the Divine Heart of Jesus

The Sisters of the Divine Heart of Jesus ( Latin : Congregatio Sororium Divini Cordis Jesu, abbreviation : CDC) are a religious community under papal law . It was founded in 1905 by Gabriele Klause (1870–1942) and Maria Johanna Ernst (1885–1961) in Breslau .

Foundation and history

The society, which was initially founded as a religious association, was converted into a congregation in 1921 . In the same year Maria Johanna Ernst was elected first general superior. On November 16, 1928, the religious order received from Cardinal Adolf Bertram of the Archdiocese of Breslau permission to found their own community . On August 3, 1937, the "Congregation of the Divine Heart of Jesus" by Pope Pius XI. approved .

During the Second World War , the mother house and all institutions of the order were destroyed. Most of the nuns of German descent had to leave Poland . Many moved to Germany, some found temporary accommodation with the Neuss Alexians . Many sisters went overseas, such as to Brazil . From 1934 to 1986 there were also branches in the Netherlands .

In West Germany, the first regional council, the seat of the order province , was founded in 1950 in Füssenich , a district of Zülpich . The nuns were active in the St. Nicholas' monastery until 1998. Currently there is only the regional council in Düren . The mother house of the Order of Women is now back in Wroclaw.
